Prof. Benedetto Longo is a plastic surgeon specializing in reconstructive microsurgery, breast reconstruction and face transplantation.
He is Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, where he directs the Residency Program in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. In 2022 he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor.
His work has contributed to the development of innovative reconstructive techniques using microsurgical flaps, as well as predictive tools such as the BREAST-V formula for breast volume estimation, which improve surgical planning and the aesthetic and functional outcomes for patients.

- More than 800 plastic surgery and reconstructive microsurgery procedures performed at Sant’Andrea Hospital in Rome.
- Scientific co-lead of the Italian experimental protocol on facial allotransplantation for complex defects resulting from burns, trauma, malformations and cancer.
- Co-director of the international research project on face transplantation between University Hospital Zurich and Sapienza University of Rome.
- First author of the international consensus recommendations on face transplantation, published in the American Journal of Transplantation.
- Development of new reconstructive techniques (Lipo-DIEP, Ergonomic FALD flap, hybrid breast reconstruction) and predictive formulas for surgical planning (BREAST-V, LD-V, FALD-V).
- Inventor of a patented wireless Doppler device for biomedical applications and developer of medical apps for clinical assessment.
